ACCESSIBLE SOUTHERN TANZANIA WILDERNESS

Open Plains and Woodland Habitats

Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible wildlife destinations and an excellent choice for travelers looking to experience a classic African safari in the southern part of the country. Its open grasslands, acacia woodlands and scenic mountain backdrops create beautiful landscapes that are home to a wide variety of wildlife.

The park is especially known for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and several species of antelope. Lions are also regularly seen, while bird enthusiasts can enjoy a rich variety of resident and migratory species. Mikumi’s relatively open terrain makes wildlife viewing rewarding and photography easier, particularly around the Mkata floodplain.
